About us

Patag Farmers Integrated Social Forestry Association (PaFISFA) was organized in July of 1991 through the introduction of the Food Base Income Generating Project (FBIGP). The group was organized through the effort of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in partnership with the International Institute for Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) and the City Government of Silay, Province of Negros Occidental. On April 1992, after almost one year of operation, the PaFISFA was divided into eight clusters with an average of ten members each. These cluster groups was formed purposely to implement Soil & Water Conservation technology through a “bayanihan system”. To sustain the group activities, each cluster established a seed nursery for timber species and mini fishponds stocked with tilapia, carps, and other freshwater species. The group also received carabao, goats, native chicken, pig and ducks from the provincial government as a dispersal project. Further, the protection and rehabilitation of the natural forest environment of the mountainous area is part of the group activities. Today, natural and sustainable farming practices are applied by the farmers in producing high-value vegetables as well as herbs, like basil, mint and parsley.
